Alice and Ryan’s Wedding at Milling Barn, Hertfordshire

I always love returning to be a Milling Barn wedding photographer, and had been looking forward to capturing Alice and Ryan’s wedding since meet up with them for their pre wedding shoot at Astridge Wood in 2021.

Milling Barn is a stunning barn wedding venue in the rolling Hertfordshire countryside.  A 17th century oak barn with high ceilings and exposed beams set in an old farmyard.  It’s an utterly rustic and charming location for a romantic wedding.

On the day, I got there early to capture some images of the venue all dressed and ready to go and to catch up with Alice and her bridal part who were getting ready in Milling Barn’s spacious dressing room.  And it needed to be spacious as there were an army of bridesmaids, the very sweet flower girl and page boy (Alice and Ryan’s son) and the mothers of the bride and groom.  Add to that the very talented hairstylist Danica Zurawel and this unobtrusive Hertfordshire wedding photographer and you get an idea of just how spacious the dressing area was!  Everybody was in great spirits and there was a little bubbly on hand to get the party started.

Ryan was also getting ready at Milling Barn, in their gorgeous honeymoon suite.  So, I caught up with him too.  He and his grooms party looked very smart in three-piece brown tweed suits with sage green ties.  Sage green was also the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses.  It was a great choice of colour and they all looked so elegant.

I then headed back to Alice, who was in her dress now and looking stunning.  The dress was designed by Enzoani and suited Alice so well it looked like it had been made with her in mind. It had a plunging sweetheart neckline with spaghetti straps.  The bodice had intricate lace detailing and the beautiful layers of chiffon skirt fanned out into an A-line shape giving

Alice a fairy-tale silhouette.  A soft veil cascaded down Alice’s back and melted into the skirt.  She looked stunning.   I got some lovely images of Alice, the bridal party and a really special father seeing the bride moment.

The wedding ceremony took place in the barn that had been dressed exquisitely by beautiful floral arrangements and fairy-lights entwined around the beams.  The ceiling has feature wooden wheel chandeliers adorned with cascading flowers.  It was a magical setting with a really cosy feel.

After a lovely ceremony, everybody headed outside for a fun confetti moment and to enjoy a drinks reception in the courtyard.  Alice and Ryan were lucky with the weather as the sun shone all day for their Spring wedding.  I took my chance to get some great candid images of everybody enjoying themselves as well as some group images of the wedding party.  The bridesmaids and grooms’ men were a lot of fun to work with, and it wasn’t long before some we got some sillier images.  The one of Ryan doing superman into the arms of his groomsman was one of my favourites of the day.  Here, take a look!

Everybody then headed back inside the barn for the wedding reception.  And just before the sumptuous wedding breakfast, guests were delighted to be entertained by Sam from The Best Singing Waiters who had everybody up singing and dancing.  It was so fun and I got some really great images.

Storytelling wedding photography at Milling Barn

After the meal, which was delicious, there were some fun and heartfelt speeches that went down well with everybody.

Evening celebrations started with the cutting of the most delicious looking cake that came with an array of amazing cupcakes, followed by a romantic first dance.  Not that Alice and Ryan were alone on the dancefloor for long.  Their guests didn’t need any coaxing as they were definitely up for a party and the DJ from Mrs R Events made sure they got one.

As the sun went down and everybody was partying it was time for me to take my leave.  But

before I did, I wanted one last perfect image.  I noticed the lit-up tree earlier in the day and knew I wanted to incorporate it into my last image of the day.  So, I quickly whisked Alice and Ryan outside for few romantic twilight images and for an image of them in front of the lit tree.  It turned out even more beautiful than I could have imagined and made the perfect image to close the story of Alice and Ryan’s gorgeous wedding day.  Here, take a look!

I always love returning to be a Milling Barn wedding photographer, and I always love meeting and working with lovely couples like Alice and Ryan.  Their wedding was a joy to capture.  Congratulations to Alice and Ryan for getting married and thank you for allowing me to tell the story of your amazing day.
