Hi, I’m Alex

Relaxed, storytelling wedding photography. No stiff posing, no standing around, just your day as it actually happens, photographed by someone who is easy to have around.

I’m a South East wedding photographer based in Eastbourne, covering weddings throughout East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. I’ll happily travel for the rest of the UK too, and destination weddings anywhere in the world.

I share my home with my wife Catherine, my two cheeky monsters Aiden and Caitlin, and our equally cheeky cat Simba. We got married on 1st April 2011, yes, April Fools Day, and it’s still one of the best days of my life. Having been on your side of it makes a real difference to how I photograph yours.

Before the camera

23 years in the British Army

Before photography I was a medic in the British Army for just over 23 years. It gave me some incredible experiences, took me all over the world, and introduced me to some amazing people. It also shaped how I am day to day: calm under pressure, observant, and comfortable in almost any situation.

That’s the bit couples tend to feel on the day. When a timeline slips or the weather turns, nothing much rattles me. Through my military connection I’ve become a trusted military wedding photographer, capturing military weddings throughout the UK.

My approach

Why I do this

My love of people is what led me into photography. I’ve been a wedding photographer for over twelve years now, and the part I enjoy most is being around people on a day that really matters to them. Meeting new faces, seeing relationships up close, and documenting moments that would happen whether I was there or not.

01

Documentary, not directed

I photograph the day as it unfolds. No long posed lists, no rearranging your guests, no missing your own wedding because you’re standing in a field for an hour.

02

Calm on the day

23 years in uniform teaches you to stay steady when things move. I blend in, keep things light, and quietly help when the timings need a nudge.

03

Relaxed portraits

We’ll grab a short window with the two of you, have a wander, have a laugh, and get the photographs that actually look like you.

Off duty

Running, and the odd pair of rollerblades

Running is a big part of my life. I love a good parkrun, 10k races and half marathons, and I’ve been training for my first full marathon. My wife runs too, so it’s something we share. Early mornings, training plans, race days, and plenty of chat about routes, pacing and shoes.

I like the routine of it. Turning up consistently, putting the work in, seeing small improvements over time. It clears my head and keeps me grounded. I also keep fit by rollerblading, something I’ve always enjoyed and a nice change of pace, especially along the Eastbourne seafront.

Two wheels

Motorbikes, e-bikes and quiet roads

I’ve always loved motorbikes. Touring in Spain has been a real highlight, long days riding, quiet roads, and taking things at a steady pace. I’m into e-bikes as well and get out on them whenever I can. Anything on two wheels tends to do the trick for me.

The rest of me

Gadgets, piano and far too much coffee

I’m a bit of a gadget fan and enjoy anything technical. I like learning how things work, setting them up properly, and tweaking them until they feel right. If there’s new tech involved, I’m usually interested.

More recently I’ve started learning the piano again. I played as a child, stopped for years, and decided to pick it back up. Progress is slow, but that’s part of the enjoyment. I’m also into gaming, especially VR, which is a great way to switch off for a while.

Coffee is essential. I need a caffeine fix every day and I appreciate a good one. I don’t drink much anymore now that fitness has taken over, so it’s usually a non-alcoholic beer, although I’ll still enjoy the occasional gin and tonic.

Oh, and my favourite colour is orange. No deep reason, I’ve just always liked it.
