Your Nymans Wedding Day, Step by Step
The Morning Buzz
Most couples get ready at a cottage or hotel a few minutes from the gardens. I arrive early to photograph the details, the build up and the natural moments with the people closest to you. It is a relaxed way to start the day and sets the tone for everything that follows.
The Big “I Do”
Ceremonies take place at the Italian-style Loggia in the middle of the Sunk Garden, with the roses climbing the arches behind you. It is intimate and full of character. I work quietly here, focusing on real reactions and the connection between you and your guests.
Confetti and Candid Moments
Once the ceremony ends, the pace lifts. Confetti through the garden paths, drinks in the Sunk Garden, and guests spreading out across the lawns. This is where a lot of the best photos happen, without anyone being asked to pose.
Portraits in the Gardens
The rose gardens, the old oaks, the lakeside and the Walled Garden all sit within a short walk. We keep portrait time short and relaxed, using whichever corner is quiet and well lit, then head straight back to the celebration.
The Evening Celebration
The Riding House Tea-room carries the day into the evening, with its restored 1920s features and private courtyard outside. I stay close to the speeches, the first dance and the energy on the floor right through to the end of the night.

What if it rains?
Nymans is an outdoor garden venue, so we plan around the weather together. The Loggia gives shelter at the ceremony, the Riding House Tea-room works well for indoor moments, and umbrellas in the gardens can look beautiful. We stay flexible and keep the day relaxed.
What time will you arrive on the wedding day?
I usually arrive a couple of hours before the ceremony, wherever you are getting ready. This gives time to capture the details, the build up, and the start of your story before we head to the gardens.
Can you photograph both partners getting ready?
Yes, if you are both getting ready at the same place or close by. If the timings overlap, you can add a second photographer to your package so nothing gets missed.
Can you help us plan the timeline for photos?

Do you cover the evening celebration?
Yes. Full day coverage runs through the speeches, the first dance and the evening in the Riding House Tea-room, right up until the celebrations wrap up at 11.30pm.
We are not confident in front of the camera. Can you help?
Most couples say this at first. My approach is relaxed and low pressure. I guide gently when it helps and let the rest happen naturally. The gardens give you plenty of space to move, which makes it much easier to feel at ease.
Can we use the whole gardens for photos?
The Loggia and its secluded lawns are yours for the day, and there are beautiful spots close by for portraits. I work with the Nymans team on the day to make sure everything fits comfortably around the garden and its visitors.

The Loggia and Sunk Garden
The Italian-style Loggia sits in the middle of the Sunk Garden, its gothic arches covered in roses. It is the heart of the day, intimate for the ceremony and lovely for portraits once the guests move on to drinks.
The Rose Gardens
The formal rose garden is all colour and romance. It works beautifully for classic couple portraits and for relaxed shots with your guests during the drinks reception.
The Ancient Oaks and Lawns
The old oak trees give a grand, sweeping backdrop, and the secluded lawns have space for group photos without anyone feeling crowded.
The Walled Garden and Stone Archways
Exotic planting, hidden paths and stone archways, with long views across the Sussex countryside. A good choice if you want something a little more adventurous than the formal gardens.
The Lakeside

Where can you get ready near Nymans?
There are some really lovely hotels and B&Bs just around the corner from Nymans that are perfect for getting ready on your big day. Picture yourself getting into your dress with a view of the Sussex countryside, having a giggle with your bridesmaids among the lavender, or maybe sipping a pre-ceremony drink with your other half on a sunny terrace. It is all up to you, and I will be there to capture all those behind-the-scenes moments.
My number one recommendation is East Lodge Cottage, which is just a short 5 minute drive from Nymans. This Grade II cottage is a cosy space for you and your bridesmaids to get ready in, with plenty of room to relax and unwind the night before.
Alternatively, Cottesmore Hotel is only an 8 minute drive, and the nearby town of Crawley has a number of hotels that will suit many budgets.
What are the ceremony options at Nymans?
Nymans has a beautiful Italian-style Loggia that is perfect for an outdoor wedding. This gothic building, with arches covered in roses, sits right in the middle of the Sunk Garden. It is pretty and intimate, great for ceremonies with around 30 guests. If you are thinking bigger, there is plenty of room for an unlimited number of additional guests on the secluded lawns.
When it is time to wrap up the ceremony, you walk out through a shower of confetti from your friends and family, leading straight into your drinks reception.
Tying the knot in a National Trust garden also means you can revisit the exact spot where you exchanged your vows whenever you like, any time of year. No need to book, just show up and take a stroll down memory lane.

The Sunk Garden is the spot for champagne and canapés after your ceremony, where you and your guests can relax and celebrate, and it works well for group photos too. For the reception, you have the Riding House Tea-room, a beautifully restored 1920s stable block that keeps the original features of the building for a warm and cosy feel.
Inside there is room for 85 guests seated, or 130 for a more stand-up vibe, plus a mezzanine level that fits another 44 seated guests. Outside the restaurant there is a private courtyard that is all yours for the day.
You can bring your own canapés, and there is no corkage fee if you want to bring your own drinks. Best of all, the place is exclusively yours. You will be the only wedding there, and you can celebrate through to 11.30pm.
