Emily and John Wedding at The View Hotel, Eastbourne
An amazing day full of military uniforms, a stunning Bride with her beautiful bridesmaids and some amazing photo spots-whats more to love!
I have known John for a few years having served in the Army together and he had been a best man at a previous wedding so when Emily and John asked me to capture their wedding day I was so happy and was really looking forward to their big day! I was fortunate to have Paul Burton along with me as well to work as a second photographer to capture some more angles.
Bridal prep
First up was bridal prep at Emily’s parents in Pevensey where the girls were already busy getting their hair and make up done. I had a few new ideas for capturing some creative detail shots so I began my capturing some great photos of Emily’s dress, shoes and jewellery. With everyone in high spirits, it was wonderful capturing some great candid shots of everyone having a great time getting ready. With the sun shining we got some bridal party portraits outside with the girls wearing their morning dressing gowns before Emily and their bridesmaids getting into their dresses.
The Ceremony
Onto the ceremony which was a short drive down the road to St Nicolas’ Church where I was immediately met by another good friend James, who’s wedding I had shot a couple of years previously. St Nicolas’ Church is a wonderful church to photograph in with its wide aisles and beautiful interior. Inside I met a very nervous John wearing his full military Army No 1 dress whilst Paul was outside capturing the bridesmaids arriving. Shortly after, Emily arrived and was walked down the aisle by both her Dad and Stepdad which was really lovely to see.
A joyous ceremony followed before signing the register and after a big round of applause, everyone made their way outside to congratulate the newly married couple. Next door to the church is the iconic 16th century Pevensey Castle which made for a wonderful backdrop for some more photos and Emily and John had arranged for an ice cream stall for their guests to enjoy. With the castle as a wonderful backdrop, we captured all the group shots which undoubtedly are some of my favourites I have taken.
Whilst the guests made their way to the reception venue, I took the Bride and Groom up to the picturesque Beachy Head for some couples portraits. With the sea in the background, sweeping fields and the dramatic cliffs, there could not be a better location for wedding photos and the weather could not have been more perfect.
The Reception
Onto the reception which was at the fantastic seaside venue The View Hotel in Eastbourne one of my favourite Sussex wedding venues. With its views over Eastbourne’s beach, a large function room and a very unique staircase, it truly makes for an amazing wedding venue and a pleasure to capture as a Surrey wedding photographer.
Emily and John had booked an amazing magician to entertain their guests who pulled out all the tricks before some wonderful speeches from Emily’s Dad and Stepdad. John followed with a very emotional and heartfelt speech before Noel gave a funny best man speech.
The Party
Onto the evening celebrations which began with Emily and John cutting their wedding cake followed by the newly married couple celebrating their first dance with their family and friends watching on before they joined them on the dance floor.
For the last photo of the evening, I couldn’t help but get creative and the hotel’s unique staircase made for a perfect spot for a truly unique photo. Truly one of the most creative photos I have created and I was fortunate enough to pick up an award for it with the Guild of Photographers.
A truly wonderful day, an amazing couple who I was so fortunate to be invited to capture their day!
