Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Wedding Photographer

Planning your wedding at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and looking for relaxed, natural photography? You’re in the right place. I’m based in the South of England and photograph storytelling weddings across Hampshire, Surrey, and the surrounding areas, including military weddings at Sandhurst.

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is one of the most distinctive wedding venues in the country. You get historic architecture, formal spaces, open grounds, and a strong sense of occasion throughout the day. The setting is structured and ceremonial, but the scale and layout give you room to enjoy the day without feeling rushed. I understand how Sandhurst works as a venue, which helps keep photography calm, organised, and respectful of the surroundings.

A Historic Military Wedding Venue in Hampshire

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is a historic military venue set in Camberley, on the Hampshire and Surrey border. The site includes formal college buildings, chapels, reception rooms, and extensive grounds, all within a secure and private setting.

Ceremonies and receptions take place within the college buildings and grounds, with clear structure around how the day runs. The scale of the venue suits formal weddings, military traditions, and larger guest numbers, while still allowing quieter moments throughout the day.

The venue includes

• Historic military buildings and formal spaces
• Chapel and licensed ceremony options, subject to eligibility
• Reception rooms for dining and evening celebrations
• Large grounds for portraits and group photos
• Space for medium to larger weddings
• A highly structured and well managed setting

Relaxed, Natural, and Full of Life

You want your wedding to feel calm and unforced.

My approach focuses on real moments and natural interactions. Even in a formal setting like Sandhurst, there is space for relaxed photography when things are allowed to unfold without constant direction.

You want someone who’s worked at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before…

Sandhurst has specific rules, timings, and expectations. I know how the buildings, chapels, and grounds are used, and how to move between them without disrupting the day. This familiarity helps everything feel steady and organised.

You don’t want to miss out on the fun…

Portrait time is planned carefully and kept efficient. Group photos and couple portraits are fitted around the schedule, so you stay present with your guests while still getting the photos you want.

You want your memories to feel as special as the day itself…

I focus on the balance between formality and real emotion. The ceremony, traditions, reactions, and quieter moments all matter. I also help couples plan a realistic flow to the day, which you can explore further in my Wedding Day Timeline Guide.

RMAS does not hold a license for Civil Ceremonies at this time

Royal Memorial Chapel at RMAS Sandhurst

If you wish to have your ceremony within the Royal Memorial Chapel you will need to speak to the Chaplain’s Office. It is usually advised to book this first to ensure you can secure your date.

Ceremonies can be booked for three different time slots: 1200, 1400 and 1600 which gives your great flexibility in planning your wedding day timeline.

You have to be married by a Church of England Priest however you don’t necessarily have to use one from the Chapel.

You will have an initial interview with the Chaplain of the Chapel. They will then give you all of the paperwork you are required to complete for obtaining a special license. In order to be married at RMAS you must have a special license which is £315.00 (subject to change). The costs are: £424 for civilians, WOs and Officers.

To obtain a special licence – Both you and your partner have to contact your local Church of England Parish Priests. You can find that out at the Church Near You website and key in your postcode. You will need their permission in way of a letter.

The Chaplains can be contacted on 01276 412200 and also have a website for further information.

Confetti cannot be thrown within the grounds of RMAS so something to take a note of whilst planning your day.

Alternatively, you could celebrate your wedding ceremony on many of the numerous churches or the Registry Office surrounding Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before celebrating your wedding reception back within the grounds.

There are a couple of options if you plan to host your reception within the RMAS grounds.

The Lakeside can be booked for your reception venue between the months of May until the end of September. The Lakeside does require the addition of a privately booked marquee. You can book any Marquee company you like although it is advised to book a company who are aware of the RMAS rules. Sandhurst Marquees is a popular and trusted Marquee company.

If you prefer an indoor location or for a wedding booked during the winter months, the Old College Dining Room in Robertson House is a fantastic alternative for your reception venue however it is only available for a limited number of weekends each year. Alternatively, the Indian Army Memorial Room within the New College is a stunning room full of history, a grand open space perfect for large receptions.

All catering within RMAS must be provided by Aramark who are the contracted caterers. For their prices and menus available contact the Aramark Functions Manager.
