Nonsuch Park Engagement Shoot

Anna and Luke chose Nonsuch Park for their engagement shoot in October, returning to the place where they had their first date. Set between Surrey and South London, the park has a quiet openness to it, especially in autumn when the light softens and the trees begin to turn. It felt fitting to begin their story there, before their wedding the following year.

We met in the late afternoon, with the light already starting to dip. The air had that clear October feel to it, cool but still comfortable, and the park was calm enough to let the shoot unfold without interruption.

A Picnic Where It All Began

They began by recreating their first date, laying out a picnic with chocolate covered strawberries and a couple of drinks. It wasn’t staged or overly arranged. They simply sat together, talked, and laughed, much like they must have done the first time they were there. Those opening moments set the tone for the rest of the engagement shoot. Nothing forced. Just the two of them, in a place that meant something.

As the light filtered through the trees, we kept things moving gently. I stayed back at times, letting them settle into conversation, then stepped in closer when the moment felt right. Engagement shoots work best when they feel like an extension of a normal afternoon rather than a photoshoot, and that balance came easily here.

Exploring Nonsuch Park

From the picnic spot, we wandered through the wider grounds of Nonsuch Park. The open lawns gave us space, while the tree-lined paths brought a softer, more intimate feel. Autumn had begun to leave its mark, with scattered leaves underfoot and a warmer tone in the light.

Anna and Luke were completely at ease with one another. There was no need for complicated direction. A quiet walk, a shared look, a pause in conversation, those moments said more than anything else. The park offered a variety of backdrops without feeling busy, which allowed us to keep the pace steady and unhurried.

Looking Ahead To Their Wedding

There’s something grounding about photographing a couple before their wedding day. It gives space to understand how they are together without the pressure of a timeline. When I later captured their wedding, that familiarity made a difference. The engagement shoot at Nonsuch Park became part of their wider story rather than a standalone session.

For couples planning an engagement shoot in Surrey or South West London, choosing a location that means something to you makes all the difference. It allows the photographs to feel rooted in memory rather than simply chosen for appearance.
