Bethany and Toby’s Wedding at Coombe Wood Golf Course, Kingston

When Bethany and Toby first got in touch with me about their Coombe Wood Golf Course wedding in Kingston, I was super excited about their day as they were planning a romantic winter wedding with a church ceremony followed by a lovely reception. Bethany and Toby are the loveliest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding! We also had the opportunity before their big day to capture some lovely engagement photos which you can see more of in this blog!

Bridal prep

I began the morning at Bethany’s house, where the bride and her family were getting ready together, and it was so much fun. I was once again joined by Darron who did an amazing job all day as my second photographer. Everyone was busy getting their hair and makeup was done by the talented Lauren Christmas and there was laughter and fun throughout. Bethany’s family and bridesmaids were super lovely and it was amazing capturing some lovely getting ready photos for them. The first look between Bethany and her dad Paul was such a lovely moment when she walked down the stairs for him to see her for the first time wearing her gorgeous dress made by Aurora Bride! Next, it was time for her bridesmaids to see her for the first time, lots of gasps and tears were shed before we made our way outside for some photos of them altogether.

The Ceremony

The wedding took place at Hook Evangelical Church in Surbiton and it was fully packed with quite literally the entire congregation. Bethany’s dad Paul is the Senior Pastor for the church and both Bethany and Toby absolutely love attending every weekend. I was immediately struck by how friendly everyone was and could tell everyone was so excited for the wedding ceremony to come. Toby was waiting nervously with his groomsman before Bethany finally arrived within a stylish vintage car with her Bridesmaids and Flower girls awaiting her. It was then time for the wedding ceremony with the Flower girls and Bridesmaids leading Bethany down the aisle to an emotional Toby. The ceremony was hands down one of the most amazing I have had the pleasure of being able to capture, from the sermon, the readings, the singing, the love in the room was infectious and I will truly never forget it! After the ceremony there was a big cheer from everyone, Bethany and Toby walked back down the aisle as a newly married couple and everyone made their way into the back room where Bethany and Toby to greet.

The Reception

After an amazing confetti tunnel, we made our way to the wedding reception which took place at Coombe Wood Golf Course, which has sweeping views overlooking Kingston. Coombe Wood Golf course is a wonderful place for a wedding as it has some great locations for wedding photos and has a very intimate feel to it, plus their staff were super awesome throughout!

Once Bethany and Toby arrived we got explored some of the grounds to capture some romantic couples photos before their guests arrived. My favourite photo is when I borrowed a Bridesmaid to throw Bethany’s veil to catch this beautiful shot!

With the weather being amazing, we had the opportunity to get lots of fun group photos with the golf course serving as a wonderful backdrop before we made our way inside for the wedding breakfast.

Following the meal, there were some incredible speeches from Paul, Toby and the best man Charlie before their guests surprised them with an impromptu song with loads of them standing up and each doing a performance including members of the top table. It was so hectic knowing which way to point my camera!

The night finished off with Bethany and Toby cutting their wedding cake made by a family friend before celebrating their first dance together. Then the party really got started with everyone making their way to the dance floor. For the last photos of the night, I stole the couple out from the party for a few minutes to capture some twilight photos with the amazing sky behind them.

I had so many amazing memories of this wedding day and I felt so humbled that Bethany and Toby had chosen me to be their wedding photographer!

The Couple

Bethany and Toby met in 2015 at a theatre company where they perform however we didn’t start dating till 2017 and were quickly engaged in 2018.

They say if you’re planning a wedding, you don’t need to spend millions and millions. You can do an amazing wedding for not that much and if you have talented friends who can help make decorations and anything you can make yourself like wedding invites gives it a personal touch! Bethany and Toby chose Spring as their theme and this influenced their colour palette for the day. Also to remember it is YOUR day and nobody else’s, don’t worry about not having the fanciest wedding venue but make it special with the money you have and at the end of the day, it’s the people present that make the day and the brilliant photos to look back on!

“Alex was like a family friend who we had known for years, he put us at ease with the camera & the photos that he has produced are incredible. I highly recommend Alex for his creativity, his professional yet relaxed manner and his organisation skills. He made our wedding day joyful!”
