A Beautiful Military Winter Wedding at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst | Berkshire
ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY SANDHURST | BERKSHIRE AND MILITARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Karen and Craig, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
It’s been so long since I have managed to get around to writing this blog considering this wedding was over a year ago but better late than never!
Craig and Karen asked for me and my fellow photographer friend Frenchy from Photography by Phillip French to shoot their wedding at the historic Royal Military Academy Sandhurst back in December 2016.
Craig was one of my instructors during my Army basic training 16 years previous and never would I have imagined back then that one day I would be shooting his wedding-especially when he was shouting at me probably at some point during the training!
This was my first wedding shooting at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and it truly was an honour to photograph at such an incredible location, one that I had visited on a number of occasions during my time in the Armed Forces.
The Academy is quite simply a breath-taking location, it has some stunning buildings with beautiful grounds, everywhere you walk has deep rooted military history and is a perfect backdrop for a military wedding.
The day began with me setting off to the Former Army Staff College to photograph Craig whilst Frenchy drove to a nearby hotel where Karen was getting ready.
Craig was busy getting ready along with his best man John and several of his groomsmen. The best part of a military wedding is most definitely the uniforms, and this wedding was no exception with both Craig and his groomsmen all wearing their number 1 dress uniform.
Prior to leaving for the ceremony I was able to capture some moments of Craig and his groomsmen both inside and outside the Former Army Staff College and all were in high spirits for the day ahead.
The ceremony was held in the Academy’s Royal Memorial Chapel which is a beautifully grand chapel quite unlike anything I have shot in before. More like a cathedral than a Chapel, I felt at some points that I was photographing a one of the Royals getting married! Shooting in this building was incredible having so much space and angles to shoot from especially from up on the balcony giving a grand view of the entire ceremony.
After the ceremony, Karen and Craig were met with a full Guard of Honour made up of Craigs groomsmen which made for some fantastic photos outside the chapel.
From here it was on to the Old College Steps for the big group photo and bridal party shots before having some time to grab Karen and Craig for some portraits as a newly married couple.
The reception was held back at the Former Army Staff College where Karen and Craig were met by their guests and began with them cutting their fantastically designed cake.
Before the guests sat down for the wedding breakfast I had plenty of time to photograph friends and family within the incredible building and it was a joy to photograph.
After the dinner and the speeches the bride and groom enjoyed their first dance, before being joined by their friends and family to party into the night.
