Hampshire gives you more variety than almost any county in the South. In an hour you can go from New Forest woodland to a Georgian manor in Basingstoke, a stone barn in the South Downs, or private woods on the coast. That range is the reason it’s such a good place to get married, and the reason it can feel overwhelming when you start looking.
As a Hampshire wedding photographer, I’ve worked at these venues in every season and every kind of weather. This guide covers the ones I know from behind the camera, with an honest note on each: what the light does, where the day flows, and what you’ll actually get out of the space.

Hampshire venues I’d love to shoot
I haven’t photographed these yet, so you won’t get a photographer’s note from me on them. They’re well worth a look all the same, and I’d jump at the chance to work at any of them.

Finding your perfect Hampshire wedding venue
Hampshire covers a lot of ground, and the venues here range from grand exclusive-use estates to dry-hire barns you build from scratch. Whichever way you lean, here are the five things I’d look at first, based on what actually makes a day run well from where I’m standing:
- Work out which Hampshire you want
The county is really several places. The New Forest is woodland and ponies, Winchester is historic and central, the north is Georgian manor country, and the coast is something else again. Narrowing the area first saves a lot of driving.
- Ask about the barn’s sound limiter
A lot of Hampshire’s best venues are rural barns with neighbours, and several have noise limits or curfews. It shapes your whole evening, so ask before you fall in love with the room.
- Visit at your ceremony hour
Light is everything. A barn that feels flat at 10am can be glorious at 4pm. Walk the space at roughly the time you’ll be saying your vows.
- Check what dry hire really means
Venues like Michelmersh Barn hand you a blank canvas, which is brilliant if you want to build something personal, and a lot of work if you don’t. Be honest with yourselves about which you are.
- Find the quiet corner
You’ll want ten minutes alone together somewhere in the day. The venues that have somewhere for that are the ones couples talk about years later.

Hampshire Wedding Venues FAQ
Do Hampshire wedding venues allow outdoor ceremonies?
Yes, plenty do. Tournerbury Woods holds ceremonies out among the trees, and venues like The Barn at Avington, Blacknest and Elmers Court all have licensed outdoor options alongside their indoor rooms, so you can decide nearer the time.
Which are the best New Forest wedding venues?
Rhinefield House, Burley Manor, Elmers Court and The Old Vicarage all sit in or on the edge of the New Forest. Between them you get grand country house architecture, deer park views, coastal gardens and relaxed open lawns.
Are there Hampshire venues with accommodation for guests?
Yes. Four Seasons Dogmersfield, Rhinefield House, Burley Manor, Norton Park, Audleys Wood and Elmers Court all have rooms on-site, which makes life much easier for guests travelling in.
What if it rains?
Hampshire weather does what it likes, but it never ruins a day. Almost every venue here has a bright indoor space that works for photos, and the barns in particular are made for it. If the rain lifts for ten minutes we can step out for a couple of portraits, and if it doesn’t, we work with what we have.
Do you cover the whole of Hampshire?
Yes. I photograph weddings right across the county, from the New Forest and Lymington through Winchester and Romsey up to Basingstoke and Alton, and along the coast to Portsmouth and Hayling Island.
How far in advance should I book a Hampshire wedding venue?
Most couples book 12 to 24 months ahead, and summer Saturdays go first. Once your venue and date are confirmed, book your photographer next, because the good ones get booked just as far in advance.
