A Summer wedding at the Mill House Hotel

Alex & Alex’s Joyful Country Wedding at The Mill House Hotel, Berkshire

There’s something brilliantly memorable about photographing a wedding where the couple share the same name—and this one? A day for the books. Alex and Alex’s summer wedding at the beautiful Mill House Hotel near Basingstoke was one of those rare celebrations where everything felt effortlessly joyful from the very beginning.

Bridal Prep at Home: The Day Begins

The morning started at the bride’s family home, where the atmosphere was full of warmth, excitement, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with bridal prep. It was the perfect way to begin—a lovely, laid-back setting with the bride surrounded by her nearest and dearest. As always, those quiet, emotional moments as the dress goes on and final touches are made are such a privilege to capture.

A Church Ceremony Full of Emotion

The ceremony took place in the estate’s very own church, just a short stroll from the house. Surrounded by family and friends, Ellen and Jack exchanged vows in a setting that felt intimate, sacred, and deeply personal. There’s something about walking from prep to ceremony on foot that slows everything down and makes it all feel even more meaningful.

A Traditional Ceremony at St Thomas of Canterbury Church

From there, it was off to St Thomas of Canterbury Church in Basingstoke for the ceremony. The setting was classic and romantic, filled with love and support from family and friends. The couple exchanged vows in front of a packed congregation, with plenty of heartfelt smiles (and a few happy tears). It was clear how much these two are adored by those around them.

A Country Wedding Celebration at The Mill House Hotel

Then we made our way to the Mill House Hotel—a charming Berkshire wedding venue that always delivers when it comes to relaxed countryside vibes. Their reception carried the rustic country theme effortlessly, complete with relaxed BBQ dining under the summer sun. Guests mingled on the lawns, laughter rang through the gardens, and there were smiles absolutely everywhere.

Emotional Speeches and a Dance Floor Game to Remember

The speeches were deeply emotional and so well-delivered. There wasn’t a dry eye in the marquee. But just as quickly as the tears came, they were replaced by laughter as the couple played a fantastic group game on the dance floor. Each table was called up—one by one—to join the couple on two chairs in the centre of the dance floor for a hilarious group photo. It was chaotic, loud, full of energy… and absolutely brilliant to shoot.

Stunning Golden Hour Portraits

As the light began to dip, we were gifted with one of the most beautiful golden hour sessions I’ve had the pleasure to photograph. The light was unreal, casting a soft, warm glow across the gardens. I took Alex and Alex for a quiet wander, and the result was a truly intimate portrait session full of love, connection and peace—just the two of them away from the buzz for a moment.

Twilight at the Gazebo: A Perfect Ending

As the evening drew to a close, we headed outside one last time for a twilight portrait at the venue’s gazebo. Using some subtle creative lighting, we finished their story with one final photo that beautifully wrapped up what had been an unforgettable day.
