A Scottish themed Military Wedding
Fiona and Ben’s wedding at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
Fiona and Ben chose a Scottish theme for their military wedding at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. It was the perfect location as they are both serving Military Officers. On the morning I arrived at Easthampstead Park Hotel to catch up with Fiona who was getting ready in one of their spacious rooms. She had her mum with her and her bridesmaids and there was a little medicinal bubbly on hand to help things along.
Fiona looked amazing in a stunning Sassi Holford dress, the fabric and cut were exquisite and gave Fiona a look of understated elegance and effortless glamour. Fiona’s dad Chris was very emotional at his first glimpse of Fiona in her dress. It’s always a big moment for Dads!
The wedding ceremony was held at the Military Chapel at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Having served in the British Army for 20 years I always love capturing military wedding photography. I got there early enough to capture a couple of images of Ben dressed in full military uniform.

I then captured Fiona’s arrival. The ceremony was beautiful and the chapels light and spacious feel combined with beautiful interiors made it a dream to photograph. Afterwards, Fiona and Ben were welcomed to married life by a traditional guard of honour which was a real treat for them and their guests.
As the weather was dry (but overcast) everybody enjoyed an elegant drinks reception on Sandhurst’s old college steps. The Old College Steps make the perfect location for wedding photographs. And I took the chance to have some fun with the wedding party and the guard of honour to get a great mix of formal group and unposed images. As guests happily mingled and enjoyed some games on the lawn. I quickly whisked Fiona and Ben away for a romantic mini photoshoot around the beautiful gardens and grounds of RMA Sandhurst. The images I got of them on the lawns by the serene lake are amongst my favourites of the day.

The reception was held in RMA Sandhurst’s Robertson Suite that took on a Scottish theme with Ben changing into traditional Scottish attire (everybody loves kilts at weddings!) and Fiona wore a tartan sash over her shoulder. The proceedings started with some really well received speeches by Fiona’s dad Chris, Ben and best man James.
Evening celebrations kicked off with a romantic first dance with all of Fiona and Ben’s guests looking on. Entertainment was in the form of a traditional Ceilidh band who had all the guests up and dancing throughout the night. I took my life into my hands and threw myself into the dancefloor and got some fantastic images. I love Ceilidh bands at weddings and Fiona and Ben’s guests were definitely up for it. They were so much fun!
Before taking my leave, I had an idea for a fantastic twilight photo with all trees outside lit up different colours. I went outside alone and set the whole thing up using flashes, then quickly whisked Fiona and Ben outside and took it. It was so worth the effort as it was my favourite image of the day and the perfect one to close the story of Fiona and Ben’s wedding. Here, take a look!
